Frequently Asked Questions

Harp Compatibility

Will the American Harp Cart (trolley/dolly) work with my harp?

Yes. The American Harp Cart (also known as a harp trolley or harp dolly) fits almost all modern pedal and lever harps from major makers including Lyon & Healy, Salvi, Camac, and Dusty Strings. It is designed to match the standard base footprint and body shape of concert-grand and mid-size harps.

Will the cart work with Lyon & Healy harps?

Yes. It works with most Lyon & Healy models including Style 23, Style 85 series, 100 series, Prelude, and Troubadour. These harps have a standard base size, so they sit securely on the padded tray and are stabilized by the strap system.

WIll the cart with with Salvi Harps?

Yes. The American Harp Cart works with most Salvi models including Diana, Arion, Ana, Hermes, and Gaia. If your Salvi harp has a full floor base—as most do—it fits the cart securely.

Will the cart work with Camac harps?

Yes. The American Harp Cart supports most Camac pedal and larger lever harps — for example Trianon, Vendôme, Oriane, Mélusine and Korrigan. If your Camac harp is mounted on a full floor base (not just short legs), it fits the cart just fine.

Will the cart work with Dusty Strings harps or other 34- to 36-string lever harps?

Yes. Models such as Dusty Strings FH36, Crescendo, and Ravenna, and other 34- to 36-string lever harps are supported. Although these are smaller than pedal harps, the padded tray and adjustable straps keep the instrument stable during transport on the cart.

Does the cart work with smaller Celtic or lap harps?

Many smaller Celtic or lap harps will physically fit the cart, but it may be larger than necessary. If your harp is under approximately 26 strings, or played mainly on your lap or a small stand, please contact us with your brand and model and we’ll confirm whether the American Harp Cart is the best fit or can recommend a more size-appropriate option.

What if my brand isn’t listed?

The American Harp Cart is intentionally brand-agnostic. If your harp:

  • Uses a full base (without removable legs), and
  • Is roughly 34 strings or larger…it’s very likely compatible.

Just send us your brand + model (or a quick photo of the base and side profile) and we’ll confirm fit or suggest alternatives.

Design Choices & Competitor Comparisons

Why doesn’t the cart use a three-wheel or folding design?

Three-wheel carts like the Harp Caddy are heavier and use a side-mounted handle that can feel uneven when you’re pushing a tall harp in front of you. They’re mainly helpful on stairs, but some players find the multiple pivot points unsettling when going down stairs, and the tri-wheel setup makes tight turns noticeably harder.

Folding designs such as the HARPO trolley are compact and stable, but they still use a side handle and have a more utilitarian look — at a much higher price point.

The American Harp Cart offers a center-balanced, full-frame design that pushes naturally, looks refined, and includes quick-release wheels for simple breakdown and transport.

Replacement Parts & Legacy Support

A part broke or I have a legacy model — can I get replacement parts?

Yes—replacement parts are available for carts produced since our recent relaunch (2023–present).

For carts manufactured between approximately 2010–2021, some original components may no longer be available. However, many parts can still be matched with compatible replacements.

If you have an older cart, please contact us with your model (if known), approximate purchase date, and photos of the part you need. We’ll help identify the correct specifications and recommend the best replacement options.

Availability for legacy models is not guaranteed, but we will do our best to assist.

General Use & Practical Questions

How much does the cart weigh?

About 17 lbs (approximately 7.7 kg). We deliberately added weight so the cart stays upright on its own — even after you remove the harp. This prevents the tipping issues common with lighter carts and keeps the frame stable when loading your instrument or turning away to open a door or car.

Do the wheels come off?

Yes — both wheels use quick-release mounts and remove in seconds for transport or storage.

How do I adjust the straps?

Buckle each strap fully around the column of the harp (never the neck). The upper strap sits higher on the column, and the lower strap wraps near the base. Snug both straps down firmly so the harp and cart feel like one unit when moving. If the harp wobbles or moves separately from the cart, the straps likely need to be tightened a bit more.

Should I keep my harp’s protective cover on when using the cart?

Yes — keeping your protective cover on — whether it’s a single main cover on a lever harp or the separate base, column, and main covers used on pedal harps — provides an extra layer of protection during transport.

The lower strap helps hold the protective cover neatly against the harp so it won’t shift or rub against the wheels. It also secures the harp firmly to the cart. For best results, always use both the upper and lower straps.

My harp base cover rubs against the wheels — how do I stop this?

Use the bottom strap — it secures the harp and keeps the main/base cover from dragging into the wheels. This keeps your cover clean and extends its life.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes — we ship worldwide. For international orders, and for customers in Hawaii, we strongly recommend selecting the unassembled cart option. This reduces the box size substantially and can lower shipping costs by a large margin compared to the fully assembled version.

Import duties or taxes may be charged by your country’s customs office and are not included in the product price.

Do you offer discounted shipping for multiple carts?

Yes — for domestic U.S. orders of assembled carts, two carts can be nested together in a single box. When you purchase two assembled carts, the second one ships FREE, since both fit safely into the same package.

This offer applies only to the assembled cart variant and domestic shipments, as unassembled carts are boxed differently.

How do I assemble my cart?

No assembly is required. The cart arrives fully built—simply slide the wheels onto the axles until they click into place.

This takes less than a minute and requires no tools. If you have any questions during setup, contact us and we’re happy to help.

When will I get my order?

We work hard to keep carts ready to ship within 1–3 business days. Because each cart includes handcrafted components, occasional backlogs may extend shipping to 7–10 days. U.S. transit times are usually 2–5 days. You’ll receive tracking as soon as your cart is on the way.

Where are your products manufactured?

Each American Harp Cart is built here in the United States using locally crafted wood components and small-batch hardware. Most of the parts come from U.S. suppliers, with only a few specialty items imported. Everything is assembled and finished by hand, one cart at a time.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping costs depend on your location and whether you choose the assembled or unassembled version of the cart. The assembled cart ships in a larger box and may cost more due to dimensional weight, especially for international customers. The unassembled version ships in a smaller box and is often significantly more economical.
